Men’s IPL Hair Removal Norwich
Long-term reduction of unwanted hair on the back, chest, shoulders, underarms and body
Whether you are fed up with constantly shaving your back or chest, want less hair through the shoulders and upper body, or simply want body hair to become finer and easier to manage, IPL can provide long-term hair reduction over a course of treatments.
IPL works by targeting pigment within suitable hairs and gradually reducing the amount and strength of regrowth.
Because hair grows in cycles, several treatments are normally needed.
You do not need to purchase or pay for a full course upfront.
You simply pay for each session individually and, after five paid treatments of the same area, your 6th treatment is free.

6 Treatments Without Paying for a Course Upfront
Hair removal usually needs several treatments because only a proportion of your hairs are in the right stage of growth at any one appointment.
Most clinics therefore sell courses of around 6 treatments, often requiring the course to be purchased upfront - I do things differently.
Pay for each treatment individually as you go. Complete 5 paid treatments of the same area and your 6th treatment is free.
You receive the same saving as a traditional 6-for-5 course, but without paying hundreds or thousands of pounds upfront before you know how well your hair will respond.
5 treatments paid individually + your 6th treatment FREE - the discount is sitting in the free 6th treatment which you will be likely to need anyway.
If further treatment is needed after that, we simply continue according to your remaining hair growth rather than treating for the sake of completing a package.
Applies to the same treatment area or Full Body Package and remains subject to continued treatment suitability
Will IPL Work on My Hair?
IPL works by targeting pigment within the hair.
That means dark brown and black hair generally responds best, particularly when the hair is relatively coarse.
Very blonde, white and grey hair usually contains too little pigment for reliable treatment, and red hair can also respond poorly.
Before starting, I will look at the hair and skin and tell you if I do not think IPL is likely to give you a worthwhile result
Why Do I Need Several Treatments?
Your hairs are not all growing at the same time.
Each follicle moves through its own growth cycle, and IPL is most effective when the hair is in the appropriate active stage.
That means one appointment cannot effectively target every follicle.
We treat one group of hairs, allow further hairs to enter active growth, then treat again.
Over successive appointments you should gradually notice less hair, slower regrowth and hairs becoming finer and less noticeable.
Around 6 treatments is a very normal starting course for body hair reduction, although some areas and individuals require further sessions or occasional maintenance
What Happens at Your IPL Hair Removal Appointment?
1. We Check the Area
When you arrive, I confirm what we are treating and check the hair and skin before we start.
The area should usually have been shaved beforehand.
2. You Get Ready in Private
You only need to uncover the area being treated.
For chest, stomach or underarms this is straightforward.
For back, shoulders, legs or larger treatment areas, you will have privacy to remove or adjust clothing before treatment and only the area I actually need access to is uncovered.
3. The Skin Is Prepared
The treatment area is checked and cleaned if necessary before a layer of clear cooling gel is applied.
Protective eyewear is worn throughout treatment.
4. The Area Is Treated
The handpiece is placed against the skin and I work systematically across the treatment area using controlled pulses of light.
You may feel warmth or a brief hot flick or sting, particularly where the hair is dense and coarse.
5. The Gel Is Removed and the Skin Is Checked
Once treatment is complete, the gel is removed and I check the skin.
You can then get dressed in private.
6. We Plan Your Next Session
Before you leave, I will advise when I want to see you again according to the area treated and how your hair is expected to regrow.
Between appointments you can shave whenever you need to.
Why Choose Alison Mary for Men's IPL Hair Removal?
Hair removal does not need to be made unnecessarily complicated.
My pricing is deliberately competitive, you do not have to pay for a complete course upfront and I personally carry out and keep track of each treatment so I know what settings have been used and how your skin and hair have responded.
That means treatment can be adjusted sensibly as your course progresses rather than every appointment being treated as though it were your first.
And if I do not think your hair is a good target for IPL, I will tell you.
I would rather lose a booking than sell somebody six treatments for hair that is unlikely to respond properly.
Competitive pricing, straightforward treatment and honest advice about what is realistically worth doing.
Before Your IPL Hair Removal Treatment
Shave the treatment area before your appointment.
Do not wax, pluck, thread or epilate the area before or between treatments because these methods remove the hair from the follicle.
Shaving is absolutely fine and is the preferred way to manage hair between appointments.
Avoid tanning and significant sun exposure before treatment.
Do not apply fake tan to the treatment area.
Let me know about medication, recent treatments or anything that may increase your sensitivity to light.
After Your Treatment
The skin may feel warm or look mildly pink for a short time afterwards.
You may also notice temporary redness or slight swelling around individual follicles, particularly where the hair is dense or coarse.
Treat the area gently until this settles and avoid unnecessary heat or irritation immediately after treatment.
Continue shaving rather than waxing or plucking between appointments.
Treated hairs do not necessarily disappear immediately.
Over the following days they may appear to continue growing before gradually shedding from the follicle.
IPL / DPL Hair Removal FAQs
How many treatments will I need?
Most people should expect a course rather than one or two appointments.
Around 6 treatments is a normal point at which to assess overall progress, although some areas and individuals need more.
Does IPL work best on dark hair?
Yes.
Dark brown and black hair generally contains more of the pigment the treatment needs to target, so darker, coarser hairs usually respond best.
Will it work on blonde, grey or white hair?
Very pale blonde, grey and white hair usually contains too little pigment for reliable IPL hair reduction.
Do I need to shave before treatment?
Yes.
The area should usually be shaved before your appointment so there is minimal hair above the skin, while the hair remains within the follicle underneath.
Can I shave between treatments?
Shaving is exactly what I want you to do between appointments.
Can I wax or pluck between treatments?
No.
Waxing, plucking, threading and epilating remove the hair from the follicle and therefore remove the target needed for treatment.
Does it hurt?
Most people describe a brief warm flick or sting.
Areas with particularly dense or coarse hair can feel stronger because more light is being absorbed by the hair.
How long is there between treatments?
This depends on the treatment area and how quickly your hair is returning.
Different parts of the body have different growth cycles, so I do not simply use one identical interval for everybody.
Will I be completely hair-free?
The aim is long-term hair reduction.
Hair normally becomes progressively reduced, slower-growing and often finer, but I would not promise that every follicle will disappear permanently forever.
Hormones, ageing and other biological changes can also stimulate new hair growth over time.
Will I need maintenance?
Possibly.
Some people choose occasional maintenance treatments once their initial course is complete, particularly if they begin to notice more noticeable regrowth over time.
