What Is Lip Filler?
Lip filler is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler placed into selected areas of the lips to alter shape, volume, proportion and definition.
Hyaluronic acid is naturally present within human tissue, but the products used for aesthetic treatment are specially formulated gels designed to provide controlled structure and volume.
The important part is not simply putting filler into a lip.
Different placement patterns can create very different results, from soft natural volume and projection to greater vertical lip height and stronger border definition.
That is why I treat the shape you want and the anatomy you already have, rather than using the same injection pattern on every client.
What Can Lip Filler Improve?
Lip filler is not only about making lips larger. Depending on your starting anatomy and treatment goal, filler can be used to:

Some clients want a very natural change that nobody immediately identifies as filler. Others genuinely like a fuller or more structured lip. Neither is automatically right or wrong. The important thing is that the result suits the face it belongs to.
Why Choose Alison Mary for Lip Filler in Norwich?
Lips are one of the areas where I think experience, anatomy and restraint matter most.
I have worked within aesthetics and permanent makeup for more than 15 years, and I continue studying lip anatomy, vascular anatomy, product behaviour, injection planes, ageing and the way previous filler changes the tissue.
I assess more than lip size. I look at upper-to-lower lip proportion, projection, vertical height, border definition, philtral structure, perioral support, dental relationship and how the mouth moves when you speak and smile.
Previous filler is also something I take extremely seriously.
Residual product, migration and tissue distortion can change the way fresh filler behaves, particularly when creating Russian lips. I will not simply add more product because somebody has booked another syringe.
I deliberately specialise rather than trying to offer every aesthetic treatment available, and every lip treatment is assessed, planned and performed personally by me.
Putting filler into a lip is not difficult. Knowing where it should go, how much the tissue can accommodate and when not to put any more in is where the judgement lies.
I offer two main approaches to lip enhancement: my softer Signature Lips and a more structured Russian-style lip technique.
Neither technique is automatically better. They create different shapes, and the right choice depends on your natural lip anatomy, previous filler and the result you actually want.
Signature Lip Filler | £150
Signature Lips are designed to work with your natural lip shape rather than dramatically changing it.
They are usually the better choice if you want:

soft, natural-looking volume

improved lip border definition

better upper and lower lip balance

gentle Cupid's bow enhancement

a naturally rounded side profile

fuller lips without a highly stylised appearance
Signature filler allows a little more natural forward projection than a Russian-style technique and is generally the softer, more traditional lip enhancement option.
It can often be performed over previous filler when the existing product is minimal, well positioned and has not significantly distorted the natural lip shape.
Best for: first-time clients, natural lip enhancement, softer volume and clients who want fuller lips without a strongly stylised appearance.
Russian Lip Filler | £175
Russian Lips are designed to create a more structured shape, with greater emphasis on vertical lip height and visible pink lip rather than simply projecting the lips further forwards.
The technique can be used to create:

greater vertical lip height

a more defined Cupid's bow
-
stronger central lip definition
-
a flatter side profile
-
less emphasis on forward projection

a more sculpted overall lip shape
Russian-style treatment is not appropriate for every lip.
If you already have a significant amount of filler, migration or distortion of the natural lip border, trying to create a new Russian shape on top of the existing product can produce a worse result rather than a better one.
Which is why previous filler matters with Russian lips.
I am much stricter with this technique because the existing product can interfere with the vertical lift, border definition and flatter profile I am trying to create. In most cases, I will only treat over previous filler if there was 0.5ml or less, it was placed many years ago and there is no significant migration or distortion remaining.
Best for: clients wanting more lip height, stronger definition and a more structured lip shape.
Which Lip Filler Technique Should I Choose?
You do not need to diagnose your own lips before booking.
If you like a softer, fuller and more natural result, Signature Lips will usually be the better starting point.
If you prefer a more defined, lifted and structured shape with greater vertical height, Russian Lips may be more suitable.
Your existing anatomy still comes first. A technique that looks beautiful on one person's lips may be completely wrong for somebody else's, so I will assess your lip shape and previous filler before confirming the final treatment plan.
You are booking the result you want, not committing yourself to a technique before I have assessed you.
How Much Lip Filler Do I Need: 0.5ml or 1ml?
This is one of the questions I am asked most often.
There is no rule that everybody needs exactly the same amount.
0.5ml Lip Filler | £125
0.5ml is most useful for:

subtle refinements
-
small top-ups
-
clients who already have an established lip shape
-
naturally very small lips where gradual treatment is preferable
-
correcting a small amount of lost volume
Because 0.5ml is a relatively small amount distributed across two lips, it is not always enough to make a meaningful first-time change.
1ml Lip Filler | £150 Signature / £175 Russian
For most first-time clients wanting a visible improvement in shape and volume, I recommend booking and budgeting for up to 1ml.
That does not mean I am obliged to inject every last drop simply because 1ml was booked.
The amount used is based on your lips and the treatment plan.
If, after assessment, only 0.5ml is genuinely appropriate, you pay the 0.5ml price.
Lip Filler for Mature Lips
Mature lips often need a slightly different approach. With age, the concern may not simply be that the lip itself has become smaller. Changes can also occur around the mouth, including loss of support, fine perioral lines and changes in the relationship between the lip and surrounding tissue.
In these cases, simply adding more volume into the lip is not always the most flattering answer.
Sometimes I will recommend:

subtle lip volume

improved border support
-
treatment around the mouth
-
chin or lower-face balancing
-
a staged approach rather than trying to correct everything in one appointment
The aim is to restore proportion rather than create an obviously enlarged lip.

Previous filler does not automatically mean it must be dissolved. If you already have filler, I assess:

how much appears to remain
-
where it is sitting
-
whether the natural lip border is still clearly visible
-
whether there is obvious migration or distortion
-
whether the shape you want can realistically be created over what is already there
If there is very little previous filler and the tissue still looks healthy and well proportioned, further treatment may be perfectly reasonable.
If the lips are heavily filled or the previous product has significantly distorted the shape, adding more filler is not something I am prepared to do simply because you want another syringe.
Sometimes the best route is to stop adding volume, correct the existing filler first and rebuild the lips properly afterwards.
If you are new to me and already have substantial lip filler, send clear front and side photographs before booking if you are unsure whether dissolving may be needed.
Elective lip filler dissolving is available where appropriate following assessment.
Dissolving is not something I recommend routinely simply because filler exists. It is used when removing existing hyaluronic-acid filler is likely to give us a better foundation for the result you want.

We will decide:

You are shown and agree the treatment plan before anything is injected.

Numbing
Strong topical anaesthetic is used before lip treatment.
Most lip fillers also contain lidocaine within the product itself.

The filler is placed according to the agreed shape and technique.
Treatment is not performed using one identical injection map on every client.
The amount, position and distribution are adapted according to your starting anatomy and whether the objective is softer volume, stronger definition, improved proportion or a more structured Russian-style result.

Immediate Result & Swelling
You will see a change immediately, but the lips will also be swollen.
The result on the treatment couch is not the final result.
Swelling, redness and tenderness are expected after lip filler and usually settle progressively over the following days.
I therefore do not recommend judging the final lip shape immediately after treatment.
Lip Filler Recovery & Aftercare
Some swelling and tenderness are normal after treatment. Bruising can also occur. For the early healing period:

keep the lips clean
-
avoid unnecessary touching or pressure
-
avoid strenuous exercise initially
-
avoid excessive heat such as saunas or steam rooms
-
avoid facial treatments around the area until the lips have settled
-
follow the individual aftercare provided after your appointment

If you have an important event, wedding, photographs or holiday planned, do not book lip filler immediately beforehand. Give the lips time to settle properly.
Lip Filler Risks & Safety
Lip filler is an injectable treatment and, although complications are uncommon, it is not risk-free. Expected temporary effects can include:

swelling
-
tenderness
-
bruising
-
temporary firmness or lumpiness while the filler settles
Less common problems can include infection, persistent lumps, asymmetry and migration.
A vascular occlusion is a rare but important complication in which blood flow to tissue becomes compromised following filler treatment. Prompt recognition and treatment are important.
This is one reason I want clients to contact me if something does not look or feel right after treatment rather than trying to diagnose a problem themselves from social media.

How much is lip filler in Norwich?
Lip filler at Alison Mary Aesthetics starts from £125 for 0.5ml. 1ml Signature Lips are £150 and 1ml Russian Lips are £175. The appropriate option depends on your existing lips, previous filler and the result you want rather than simply basing it on the amount.
Should I have 0.5ml or 1ml lip filler?
0.5ml is most useful for subtle refinement, small top-ups or clients who already have an established lip shape.
Most first-time clients wanting a noticeable change should budget for up to 1ml so there is enough product available to create shape and balance properly.
That does not mean the full amount has to be used if your lips do not need it.
What is the difference between Russian lips and normal lip filler?
My Signature technique follows the natural lip shape and produces softer volume and more conventional projection.
My Russian-style technique places greater emphasis on vertical height, border definition and a flatter side profile.
The best option depends on your anatomy and preferred result.
Can I have Russian lips if I already have filler?
Sometimes, but I am quite strict about this.
For a true Russian-style result, I need to be able to work from a relatively clean natural lip shape rather than trying to build a new structure on top of layers of previous filler.
As a general rule, I will only consider Russian lips over previous filler when there was 0.5ml or less and it was placed many years ago, with no obvious migration, distortion or significant residual product remaining.
Clients often describe several millilitres of old filler as “only a little”, or assume that filler placed three or four years ago must have completely disappeared. That is not always the case.
If there is too much existing filler or it is sitting in the wrong place, I will recommend dissolving first.
I would rather rebuild the lips properly than compromise the result by trying to force a Russian shape onto an unsuitable foundation.
How long does lip filler last?
There is no useful exact number that applies to everyone.
Longevity varies according to the product, amount used, lip movement, metabolism, previous treatment history and individual tissue characteristics.
I prefer clients to return when the result has genuinely reduced rather than automatically adding another syringe at a fixed interval.
Does lip filler hurt?
Lip filler is not completely pain-free.
Strong topical anaesthetic is used before treatment and most filler products also contain lidocaine, which helps reduce discomfort during injection. Most clients find the treatment manageable, although lips are a sensitive area.
How long does lip filler swelling last?
Swelling begins immediately after treatment and generally reduces progressively over the following days.
The exact amount varies considerably between clients, which is why the immediate post-treatment appearance should never be treated as the final result. Several days may be required for swelling and redness to settle.
Will lip filler make me look overfilled?
That is not the aim of treatment.
An overfilled appearance is more likely when too much volume is repeatedly added or when existing filler is not taken into account.
My approach is to assess what is already present and use the amount needed for the intended shape rather than treating “more filler” as automatically better.
