Which Permanent Eyeliner Style Should I Choose?
Smokey Lash Enhancement | £300
The Smokey Lash Enhancement creates soft definition directly through the upper lash line.
Pigment is diffused through the lashes rather than creating a traditional visible wing, giving the eyes more depth while keeping the overall result understated.
I often compare it to the effect of softly working dark pencil through the roots of the upper lashes.
It is a good choice if you want your eyes to look more defined without looking as though you are wearing obvious liquid eyeliner.
The Smokey Lash Enhancement suits a very wide range of eye shapes and ages.
Winged Permanent Eyeliner | £350
Winged eyeliner creates more visible definition above the upper lash line with a small, tailored wing at the outer eye.
This is my signature eyeliner style and can be adapted considerably depending on your eye shape and how defined you want the finished result to be.
The wing does not need to be large or dramatic.
On hooded or mature eyelids, careful design becomes particularly important because the liner needs to work with the natural folds and movement of the eyelid rather than fighting against them.
Which Eyeliner Style Do I Actually Recommend?
If I am being completely honest as a permanent makeup artist, I think a Smokey Lash Enhancement suits more people and often produces the better-looking result.
Winged eyeliner photographs beautifully, but in reality a permanent wing has to be relatively small and you need the right eyelid anatomy for it to sit well.
A successful wing needs enough visible space at the outer eyelid for the design to remain clean when the eye is open. If the lid is hooded, folded or there is very little visible skin at the outer corner, even a wing that has been carefully designed to lift upwards can visually collapse into the fold and appear to point downwards.
There is another reason I often prefer the smokey style...
With winged eyeliner, some of the design has to transition away from the lash line to create the outer flick. That limits how much thickness and softness I can build through the very outer lashes without making the wing look heavy.
With a Smokey Lash Enhancement, all of the emphasis can stay where I often think eyeliner looks best: right along the lash line.
I can hug the lashes from beginning to end, build more depth through the outer third and create a thicker or smokier finish if you want something more dramatic, without having to redirect the design into a wing.
The result tends to frame the eye beautifully and works with a much wider range of eye shapes.
So if you love wings and you have the anatomy for one, absolutely have one. But if you ask me which style I would choose purely on what I think looks best on most eyes, I would usually choose the Smokey Lash Enhancement.

What Happens at Your Permanent Eyeliner Appointment?

CONSULTATION & DESIGN
Your consultation is completed at the beginning of the treatment appointment.
We discuss the style you want, how you normally wear eyeliner and what will suit your eye shape and eyelid anatomy.
For winged eyeliner, the design is mapped before treatment so we can agree the shape before pigment is implanted.
2.
THE PROCEDURE
Allow approximately 2 hours for the complete appointment, including consultation and design.
Topical numbing products are used throughout to keep you as comfortable as possible.
Most clients find permanent eyeliner much more manageable than they expected.
3.
HEALING & AFTERCARE
The eyeliner will initially appear darker, sharper and more intense than the healed result.
You will leave with clear aftercare instructions and everything you need to care for the area while it heals.
The pigment gradually softens as the skin recovers.

Does Permanent Eyeliner Hurt?
Topical numbing products are used throughout the treatment.
Most clients describe the procedure as uncomfortable in places rather than severely painful, and many find it considerably easier than they expected.
Is Permanent Eyeliner Suitable for Hooded Eyes?
Often, yes.
Hooded eyes simply require more careful design because the natural folds of the eyelid affect where a wing can safely and attractively sit.
I assess the eyes open and relaxed rather than designing purely on stretched skin.
In some cases, anatomy may limit how large or dramatic a wing can realistically be.
Is Permanent Eyeliner Suitable for Mature Eyes?
Yes, depending on the individual eyelid and skin.
Permanent eyeliner can be particularly useful where applying conventional eyeliner has become more difficult.
The design, thickness and wing need to be adapted to the skin and natural eyelid folds rather than applying the same style used on a younger, firmer lid.
Will My Eyeliner Look Very Dark Straight Afterwards?
Yes, permanent eyeliner normally appears darker and sharper immediately after treatment than it will once healed.
The colour and definition soften as the area recovers.
Do not judge the final result from how it looks immediately after the appointment.
How Long Does Permanent Eyeliner Last?
Permanent makeup fades gradually over time rather than disappearing on one particular date.
Longevity varies depending on your skin, pigment, lifestyle, sun exposure, skincare and individual healing.
A colour boost can be performed once enough fading has occurred that you want the definition restored.
Can You Work Over Existing Permanent Eyeliner?
Sometimes.
Light, well-positioned existing pigment may be suitable to work with.
Very dark, badly positioned, saturated or distorted eyeliner may need laser removal or fading before I would recommend adding more pigment.
